Andrew Duhon at Voodoo Music Experience 2009
I met Andrew Duhon at Voodoo on Friday evening hanging in the Preservation Hall tent watching the Tao Rodriguez-Seeger Band. I introduced myself and told him I’d hoped to make his show the next morning, but getting up and out to Voodoo by 11 AM was questionable. He passed on the news that he had just learned that his show was MAYBE moved up to noon. So, I arrived at Voodoo at just after noon, checked twitter and saw that someone was watching Andrew at that moment. With my fingers crossed, I rushed to the SoCo/WWOZ Stage to find out he was only on song #3.
I decided to just soak up the scene before pulling my camera out. The sun was shining, the skies were blue, there was a slight cool breeze and the crowd was serene, yet engaged. For a brief moment I considered leaving my camera packed away, but then thought better of it…

I had the privilege of photographing Jane’s Addiction at Voodoo Experience this year. Now, for those that haven’t met me, I’m pretty short and it was a pretty intense photo pit, so I was only able to get shots of Dave Navarro and Perry Farrell. Still, I think they came out pretty well for being blocked by tall chicks on stools and my inability to breathe. Enjoy!

MyNameIsJohnMichael at Voodoo Experience 2009.
If you haven’t seen these guys, do yourselves a favor and do so. After completing their 52 songs in the 52 weeks of 2008, they continue to make beautiful music. When they take the stage, you’re hit with a barrage of talent that you can’t ignore or deny. The Deltree just made a video from their Project 30-90 performance of their song, “The One”.
You can catch them at the New Orleans Indie Rock Fest on November 20 and at Po-Boy Fest on Oak Street on November 22. Check out http://mynameisjohnmichael.com for more dates and some hilarious blog posts.
